Sumo Digital has shared a new trailer for Sackboy: A Big Adventure where we not only see new footage but also learn what the developer’s goals with the 3D platformer featuring the cute mascot are. Watch it here!
Sony is bringing back one of its more beloved platform mascots with Sackboy. The stitched plush figure has been the symbol of the PS3 era Little Big Planet games but went into slumber throughout the entire PS4 generation.
Six years after Little Big Planet 3, Sackboy: A Big Adventure brings back one part of the creative franchise. While the LBP games were heavily leaning on offering a sandbox experience where players could create and share truly awesome levels with each other, the upcoming title is a rather traditional 3D platformer in the vein of Super Mario 3D World.
We wanted every level in the game to feel unique and to continually surprise you with what comes next. In one stage you’ll be careening through a mountain pass on a runaway train, the next exploring a forgotten temple or facing off against a hostile baddie. We’ve mixed up the gameplay with a bunch of new power ups – including one which at one point quite literally turns the world on its head! And the game has an UN-BEL-IEV-ABLE soundtrack – there are moments where the music is sure to bring a smile to your face.
The Design Director of Sackboy: A Big Adventure made sure to explain to fans that their upcoming platformer is purely focusing on the platforming, as to not create confusion on what to expect. But that decision could become a stroke of genius in the end.
The Little Big Planet games were beloved but the actual platforming gameplay was received mixed at best, due to laggy physic movement. Sackboy: A Big Adventure promises to deliver fluid and direct controls to players which should make it much more fun to actually play.
Throw in full four-player co-op and you have a recipe for greatness. It might be a stark transformation what we’ve seen so far looks very promising. Sackboy: A Big Adventure is a cross-gen PlayStation 5 launch title and comes out on November 12th for both PS4 and PS5 in North America.
