Sam Fisher’s newest tool in Splinter Cell: Blacklist is a Wii U GamePad

Score one for Nintendo! Today, Nintendo announced that Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Blacklist is coming to the Wii U in North America and Europe this August.

Blacklist was already set to launch on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. Nintendo now joins those three platforms for the August 20 release date for North America. The Wii U GamePad will reportedly be used to operate Sam Fisher's tools, switch weapons, fight enemies and navigate the environment. It'll be interested to see how stealth gameplay can be altered with the GamePad.

We recently saw Splinter Cell: Blacklist at PAX East in Boston, and I walked away really impressed with what I saw. The levels are a lot more open, and there will be multiple ways to approach any scenario.

For Nintendo and its Wii U console, this is great news. While Pikmin 3 is on the horizon, the Wii U's game library is very lackluster at the moment. Now, in the coming months, the Wii U will be getting Deus Ex Human Revolution Director's Cut and Injustice: Gods Among Us, and a few Ubisoft titles — Splinter Cell: Blacklist, Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag and Rayman Legends. Suddenly, the Wii U's library isn't too shabby.
