Over the weekend, the Samsung Gear VR headset officially went on sale, following being available through pre-order. The $99.99 virtual reality headset has turned out to be quite popular – it has sold out on both Amazon and Best Buy.
If you’re itching for the headset you can still grab it on the Samsung store.
It looks like Samsung didn’t even know how popular the headset would be, the company hasn’t revealed when more headsets will be available. However, they have commented (via Rebooti) to say they will be fulfilling all orders as soon as possible, which makes it sound like some orders might be on back-order.
“We are delighted with the overwhelmingly positive response Gear VR has received from reviewers and eager buyers alike. We are working hard to fulfill all orders as quickly as possible.”
If you were a lucky dog and nabbed a headset for yourself, you’ll be able to use the headset to access media across a number of Samsung smartphones:Â Samsung Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, or Galaxy S6 Edge+.
The Samsung Gear VR is one of the more accessible headsets, thanks to its price and the fact that it sold out at some online retailers only further reflects this fact. How many people will adopt VR in the long run has yet to be seen, we still have a number of headsets set to release (Sony’s and the Oculus).
