Samsung is reinventing the selfie with the new Alpha line of smartphones

I was lucky enough to receive an invite to Samsung's 2015 product showcase in Miami, Florida this evening. We were able to get a good sense of where Samsung is headed smartphone wise, what they'll be focusing on, as well as some of their secondary line accessories that will further enhance your entertainment.

Their smartphone initiative for 2015 is all about the 'Selfie.' If you don't know what a selfie is, you're lying. Yeah, even your grandma probably knows what a selfie is by now. Basically, everyone takes selfies. Even those that despise selfies have at some point or another taken them. Samsung's brand new line of smartphones will ensure that selfies are now much easier to take, hence making them an even more essential part of your picture taking routine.

Essentially the phone will come with a front facing 5mp camera, which is unheard of. That means a lot of those selfies you'll be taking will now have a much higher fidelity to them. But that's not all. We were able to take a selfie by simply holding up our palm in front of the camera, and the phone immediately started a two second countdown. That gave me enough time to lower my hand, and pose. Boom, the perfect selfie with an enhanced camera and easier more accessible ways to take the picture, without fumbling your thumb on the screen or on one of the buttons. Other picture taking options will include Wide Selfie which will allow you to make the picture wider, much like you would take a panorama picture, the Rear-Cam Selfie, which will detect and focus on faces, as well as an Animated GIF, so you can flood the internet with even more cute cat animations. You can check out the phone in action below:

The new Alpha line, or the Galaxy A line, will come in three different sizes, depending on the type of user you are. If you like your phones compact, the A3 line is the one you'll be more comfortable with since that sports a 4.5 inch display. The A5 on the other hand will sport a 5 inch display. Even though it's not as big as Samsung's Note line which sports a 5.7 inch screen, it's still on the bigger spectrum of smartphones. The A7 however, is the biggest of the bunch, sporting a 5.5 inch screen, which is just .2 inches shy of the Note. If you prefer Phablets, the A7 is the way to go.

Since the Samsung Alpha is so focused on the social consumer, they're targeting a much younger audience, and because of that, the Alpha is much more affordable line than the top of the line Galaxy S or Note line. The Samsung Alpha line is currently available to purchase.
