Say hello to the robot from SXSW that will likely be the end of humanity

It wasn't long ago that we saw the robot built by Boston Dynamics (named Atlas) that will more than likely lead the robot uprising against humans, but SXSW has revealed an 'android' that will contest the Atlas robot in its search to destroy humanity.

Meet Sophia, the robot built by doctor David Hanson and his team of engineers.

Sophia can emulate more than 62 facial expressions, thanks to engineering and patented silicon skin. Her 'eyes' are well-crafted and programmed cameras that allow her to 'see' faces, appear to make eye contact and recognize people (note: don't talk smack about Sophia near Sophia).

"Our goal is that she will be as conscious, creative and capable as any human," explained Hanson to CNBC. "We are designing these robots to serve in health care, therapy, education and customer service applications."

Obviously the film Ex Machina struck a cord with Hanson. Unfortunately, that film shows the dangers of androids…
