The remake of perhaps the greatest gangster film of all time in Scarface hit a production snag this week as its director had to leave the film according to Variety.
Antoine Fuqua, who directed Training Day and Equalizer with Denzel Washington, had to leave the film as an Equalizer sequel is scheduled to begin production very soon. The scheduling conflict made it impossible for Fuqua to continue on Scarface as he already had too much invested in The Equalizer. Variety also reported that Star Wars: Rogue One actor Diego Luna is on board to star in the film, but the role was not announced. We assume it will be Pacino's role of Tony Montana, but could very well be Rebenga by Roberto Contreras.
Since the studio wants the Scarface remake up and running with production in the Spring, they are currently meeting with directors to take over for Fuqua. There does not appear to be a delay as of yet, but it's something to keep an eye on. There is currently no release date for the film.
