Scarlett Johansson still wants a Black Widow standalone film

There’s been plenty of talk on whether or not a standalone Black Widow movie should be made. The Avenger’s director, Joss Whedon, has expressed interested in the film, as has the Iron Man 3 director, Shane Black. Even Scarlett Johansson, who has portrayed the character in the Avenger films has supported the idea.

Once again, Johansson has brought up the idea of a Black Widow film, saying that she spoke with film producer and president of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, about getting it done.

“I’ve talked to Kevin Feige about it. We’re creatively really compatible.  I think we both agree that the character is right for a standalone, it’s just a case of timing at this point for both Marvel and myself.”

While Feige supports the idea of a Black Widow standalone, the character is one of the few Avengers characters that has not seen a standalone film. Disney and Marvel have tons of films planned out for the future, but it doesn’t seem like Black Widow is anywhere in those plans.

“Marvel has a really huge roster. They’re looking four years ahead. I also have a lot of things that I want to do,” said Johansson. “If I did it, I would dedicate myself completely to making it amazing. It would have to be the best version that movie could possibly be. Otherwise, I would never do it.”

Johansson does realize that the film has to be done right and that even she might not be best for the job. However, she really feels as though it could be awesome.

“[I] don’t know if I have the capacity for it. I think the fans were adamant about it, it could be done. It should be done, probably … It’d have to be done the right way, though. It’d really have to be its own standalone and its own style and its own story. But there’s a lot of great stuff that you could do with it. It could just be awesome.”

If the movie does happen, hopefully, it’s nothing like that SNL Black Widow movie skit.
