It appears as though both Winona Ryder and screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith have lied to us, Beetlejuice 2 is not happening afterall. That's if you can trust Tim Burton's representative.
Rumors have been circling that a script for a Beetlejuice sequel had been completed and the original stars Winona Ryder and Michael Keaton would be returning to the film once again. Apparently, all of this was a lie fabricated by some comments that director Tim Burton made and that there is no sequel.
Prior to the dreams of Beetlejuice 2 being shot down, ShowBiz Spy released a quote from Burton that has been called fraudulent by his representative. The quote had Tim Burton saying the following:
“The film is a go and has been approved by the Warner Bros. team, we have talked with the cast members we wanted for the film and they are all on board, this includes both Winona and Michael. We have the script in hand everything is in place all we need to do now is get ready to start filming.”
Later, a representative sent them the following message:
“Tim Burton did not confirm Beetlejuice 2 as the movie is not in development. Tim’s focus is entirely on Miss Preegrine’s Home For Peculiar Children set for a September 30 2016 release and developing Dumbo“.
Dreams crushed.
