SDCC 2016: Comic Con has big plans in store for the Star Trek 50th Anniversary

This year's San Diego Comic Con plans to boldly go big for Star Trek's 50th!

San Diego Comic Con International 2016 has a lot of big events lined up in celebration fo the 50th anniversary of Star Trek.

The start of the 2016 San Diego Comic Con is only a few weeks away. Every year, fandom hits a fever pitch with all the new announcements and trailers usually revealed during the event. Celebrating everything in the world of comics, movies, television, and anything else that fuels overall geek culture, this year's convention will involve some heavy influence from the world of Star Trek, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

On the heels of the release of the upcoming 'Star Trek: Beyond' and the announcement of a new series on CBS releasing next year, SDCC plans to cater to everyone's inner Trekkie with a whole dockett of events and panels exploring the lore and culture of the beloved franchise:

Star Trek: Celebrating 50 Years– Hall H, Saturday, July 23, 2-3pm

Trek Talks: Science, Smithsonian, and Star Trek– Room 5AB, Friday, July 22, 6.5-7.5pm

Trek Talks: Star Trek and NASA Boldly Go– Room 5AB, July 23, 6-7pm

Star Trek: The Roddenberry Vault– Room 5AB, Saturday, July 23, 12.5-1.5pm

Star Trek: The Official Starships Collection- Designing and Filming Starships– Room 28 D/E, Saturday, July 23, 3-4pm

Star Trek: Five Decades of Comics– Room 8, Friday, July 22, 1.5-2.5pm

50 Artists, 50 Years: Art Exhibit– Michael J. Wolf Fine Arts in San Diego's Gaslamp District

The whole event will also include exclusive merchandise and booths from Diamond Select, QMx, Entertainment Earth, IDW Publishing, and many, many more. San Diego Comic Con International 2016 runs from July 21-24.
