In 2004, director James Wan released a fairly low-budget horror flick that took the world by storm. Of course, we're talking about the original Saw film. The film was a bloody and disturbing thriller where two men are trapped in a room and must find a way to escape. As the movie progressed, you learned more and more about why each character was there and there's a number of dark revelations made. This quickly became a trademark of the series where there were twist endings that blew the minds of viewers everywhere. Sadly, as the series went on the quality decreased with each and every film.
After the "Final Chapter" released in 2010, many assumed the series was done forever. Of course, Hollywood is a big fan of bringing back classic franchises and Saw is no exception. Later this year, the "torture porn" series will be returning to the big screen in the form of a half reboot, half continuation titled Jigsaw.
Surprisingly, it looks genuinely good. It seems Lionsgate is attempting to bring back two big horror properties this year with Jigsaw and Leatherface, a prequel to Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Obviously, trailers intentionally show the best parts to get you hooked but it seems promising, only time will tell if it ends up being the grand return to Saw the series deserves.
A series of grisly murders are popping up in the form of the Jigsaw killer's style. Police believe it's just a copycat killer due to John Kramer (the mastermind behind the whole operation) being deceased and his proxies no longer being around but new evidence suggests Jigsaw (or one of his disciples) may be alive and up to his old tricks again.
