Sea of Thieves shows off Day/Night cycles, characters and world in new video from SDCC 2016

Rare is cooking up something special here.

Unbeknownst to many, Rare Ltd. actually made an appearance and made a relatively quiet (albeit less flashy) showing for their upcoming open world, pirate multiplayer game, Sea of Thieves. The developers spent the bulk of the presentation (embedded above) talking about the game's artistic direction and inspiration, but they also showed off some clips of what the game looked like as it transitioned from Day to Night (which begins at 20:25).

Another thing the developers showed off is that Sea of Thieves will contain some supernatural elements including walking skeletons and ghosts. Fans who attended the show walked away with an exclusive glow-in-the-dark pirate ghost figurine as a supplement to the developer's ghost character reveal (which you can check out starting at 31:17).

Rare also announced that Sea of Thieves will contain nods to previous games like Perfect Dark and Banjo-Kazooie in the form of figureheads for your ship (which you can see starting at 26:31).

Sea of Thieves is currently in development for Xbox One and Windows 10 and had a rather fantastic (and flashy) presence at the Microsoft Press Conference at E3 2016. There is currently no official release date for the game, though Xbox Austrailia did jump the gun and announce a window of February 2017, which Microsoft has since denied
