Stranger Things took the world by storm when it launched on Netflix last year and quickly gained a cult following. When seaso two was officially announced, it came along with some new cast additions such as Sean Astin and Paul Reiser. It was announced that Reiser would play an employee of the Energy Department while Astin was merely a former high school classmate of both Hopper and Joyce. Thanks to a recent fan event, we now know the exact role Astin will play.
Hollywoodlife was on board a recent Fan2Sea Comic Con cruise where some of the cast was in attendance for a fan panel. David Harbour, who plays Hopper, was one of the ones in attendance and clarified Astin's role. "We have Sean Astin… he’s Winona’s new boyfriend — much to the chagrin to the Chief of Police.”
It's the first we have a mention of Astin's role in the series and should make for a rather interesting sub-plot between the three characters. In regards to when the story takes place, he reiterated that it begins one year after the end of season one, but added an intriguing piece of information.
“It’s a year later in the story, so there are several things that happened last year — like Will has come back — there are certain people in the town that know what happened, and then certain people that don’t know what happened. So there’s a lot of fall out with who knows what.”
If people know what happened, that opens up a lot of questions. Just who knows? How does it impact whatever deal Hopper made with the Energy Department? How'd they find out? Hopefully we'll have a trailer soon, but there already seems to be a lot of excitement around the main story and sub-plots. Let us know what you think below.
Stranger Things season 2 will air on Netflix later this year
