PUBG Corporation has released a detailed blog post where the Korean developer goes deep into the fourth season of battle royale phenomenon PUBG. In a surprise twist, the new content in the new season will try to tell a story. Check out the new cinematic trailer for the 4th season here!
Battle royale games haven’t really lost momentum but it’s fair to say that only a few titles are still massively popular. Chief among them is PUBG, the grandfather of the modern take on the last man standing game mode. Despite its still large player base, a breath of fresh air is always welcome. And that’s exactly what the developer is aiming to deliver with the incoming new season.
Since battle royale is a pure multiplayer mode, a story is the last thing players were expecting the receive. As such, today’s news from the dev is an unexpected but welcome surprise. Maybe it’s exactly this unexpected aspect which will satiate long-time players. Just as it’s teased in the trailer linked above, we learn how Erangel became a battleground in the first place. After an invasion of the island in the past, a young boy who survived this tragic event started the battle royale match.
Of course, there’s a whole lot more in Season 4 and you can read about it in detail on the official blog post here. The main takeaway is large visual update to Erangel. Since it’s an old map, this serves to bring the visual fidelity of the cult location up to par with the more modern additions. The new Survivor Pass 4: Aftermath will feature over 100 rewards which can be unlocked through numerous missions or leveling up your pass. In a first, missions can be completed cooperatively for even more options.
The updates are live for PC players on Test Servers with console versions planned to getting the update in late Summer.
