Sega and Double Fine Productions partner for The Cave

Double Fine Productions and Monkey Island creator Ron Gilbert, in collaboration with Sega, are bringing the upcoming adventure game The Cave to consoles and PCs early next year.

Sega made the announcement on their blog earlier today. The game follows a group of strangers who enter the cave, hoping it can grant their wish.

“The concept of The Cave has been bouncing around in my head for many, many years, and then the little voices that tell me to do things said it was time to make the game,” Ron Gilbert said. “I’m thrilled to be working with amazingly talented folks at Double Fine and ecstatic that the team at Sega believes in adventure games and quirky ideas.”

The cast includes the Hillbilly, the Monk, the Knight, a pair of Dickensian Orphans, the Adventurer, the Scientist, and the Time Traveler.

"Some come to conquer their fears," Gilbert told Eurogamer. "Others come to find their desires. Others come to get away from their kids for the weekend. Whatever the reason, whenever they come to The Cave, they learn something about themselves. More importantly, they learn something about who they might become."

Gilbert's early game, Maniac Mansion, helped inspire The Cave.
