Sega is looking to keep their classic games relevant by porting them to iOS and Android and making them available for free. The service called Sega Forever will bring 20 years worth of Sega's hard work to your smartphone, starting with five games: Sonic the Hedgehog, Comix Zone, Altered Beast, Kid Chameleon, and Phantasy Star II.
As part of the service, Sega will release new games on iOS and Android every two weeks. While the games are free, they all come with the option to upgrade to an ad-less version of the game for $1.99. Both the free version and paid version of games will include modern features like cloud saves, Bluetooth controller support, and online leaderboards.
“As the Sega Forever collection expands through months and years,” the company explains, “it will include both official emulations and ported games that pan all Sega console eras, each adapted specifically for mobile devices while remaining faithful to the original games.”
The first five free games in the Sega Forever service will release tomorrow, June 22nd, on iOS and Android.
