Gaming giant Sega has revealed their plans to port more of their existing gaming catalog onto the PC after the smash hit of the recent Persona 4 Golden Steam release. Not only that but expect future titles to be created with a PC launch in mind from right from the start.
Big changes are inbound none other than the PC gaming crowd has good reason to be excited. In a recent investor meeting, Sega executives answered pressing questions from some of their bigger investors. One of these was in regard to the recent PC port of Persona 4 Golden and the future plans for the PC platform.
We remastered “Persona 4 the Golden”, a title previously sold on the PlayStation Vita, and released it for sale on Steam this fiscal year. Because of the game’s critical acclaim and its low selling price, sales were much stronger than expected. We will continue to actively promote porting previously released titles to Steam and new platforms. We are also negotiating with platform holders for new games in the future, and we’re considering ways to sell under favorable conditions for each title. Among them are measures such as preparing PC versions of the titles from the beginning, with multi-platform releases in mind.
Persona 4 Golden, the improved version of the classic PlayStation 2 JRPG for the Vita, got a surprise PC port this June. It landed like a bomb with well more than 500k owners. It’s an important release since it marks the first time a modern Persona game is available for PC.
PC gamers have done what they could and voted with their wallets, showing Sega that there is ample interest for the console-centric titles under the company’s umbrella. Sega has heard the message very loud and clear, leaving no doubts that P4G will not be a one-off.
With Atlus’ preparing to bring Shin Megami Tensei V and Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne to the Nintendo Switch next year, it’s not out of the question that both of them will get a PC port sooner or later. To be fair, these two games have been in development well before P4G changed the minds over at Sega, so don’t expect them anytime soon.
Of course, PC gamers are thrilled with the news and hope that Persona 5 Royal will get a PC port soon. Not to even mention the treasure trove of classics that could be ported much quicker.
