For as harsh as the reviews for SEGA's Aliens: Colonial Marines were, the game actually posted semi-strong sales numbers. So either SEGA's marketing team needs a promotion, or gamers no longer trust the opinions of reviewers. Whatever the reason, Colonial Marines managed to sell 1.31 million units which, according to the company's latest financial results, is among the publisher's top titles.
Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, which received considerable praise in comparison to the Aliens flop, only sold 1.36 million, although it was SEGA's best-selling game last year. The London 2012 Olympics tie-in game sold just 680,000, while the latest Football Manager fell just short of one million, recording 940,000 sales. Yakuza 5 has sold 590,000 copies in Japan since its launch in December 2012.
Overall, it was a positive report from SEGA and parent company SEGA Sammy, which posted an overall profit of 33.46 billion yen ($331 million). Unfortunately, not everything was good news as Aliens: Colonial Marines' co-developer Timegate Studios filed for bankruptcy last week with rumors of layoffs at the studio.
