Sega’s upcoming game is a ‘new Yakuza’

According to Sega's Toshihiro Nagoshi, the next Yakuza game might as well be called "New Yakuza."

Yakuza 5 uses a whole new engine, said Nagoshi. The recent zombie-themed Yakuza: Dead Souls (also known as "Yakuza: Of the End") represented a final act for the series and everything the developers had created. The upcoming game marks a new beginning.

Of course, the fifth installment will still bring back familiar elements, such as play spots around town — an aspect Nagoshi said will appear in greater volume than ever before.

Yakuza 5 features five cities and five characters: Kazuma Kiryu, Taiga Saejima, Shun Akiyama, Haruka, and Tatsuo Shinada (thanks to user AndrewAM for the tip!).
