SEGA gave fans of the iconic Shenmue series hope for a remaster of the two old games. Sega is apparently interested in making them available on modern day systems "we’d love to do it and are currently investigating how to make it a reality".
The Shenmue series is one of the legendary franchises in the gaming world. When Shenmue 3 was announced it got fully founded on Kickstarter with in 24 hours and has made over $6.3 million from crowd funding alone. People even started buying Dreamcasts when the Shenmue 3 Kickstarter was announced just so they could play the original games.
In the latest episode of SEGA Central, which can be viewed above, the community manager Dan Sheridan revealed that SEGA would love to remake Shenmue 1 and 2, but there are a few obstacle to overcome first.
"In regards to Shenmue 1 and 2 HD, of course we would love to release these tomorrow! Sadly, it’s not as simple as porting the games to current platforms as we will need to ensure that any HD remaster lives up to the quality of the original titles. And with games as immersive as Shenmue 1 and 2, there are further complications from licensed products that were included in the original games. That said, we’d love to do it and are currently investigating how to make it a reality."
There we have it, SEGA is looking into making HD version for Shenmue 1 and 2. Whether their plans become reality or not is for the future to decide. Shenmue 3 is scheduled for release in December 2017 on PC and PlayStation 4.
