Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice just got its launch trailer and it’s doing great work at ramping up the excitement. The samurai action-rpg is coming out next week, on March 22nd for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The trailer is showing new enemies, boss fights and gives more glimpse into the story so, if you’re squeamish about even small spoilers be warned. Otherwise, check it out!
With less than two weeks until Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice finally comes out, publisher Activision is gracing impatient players with the launch trailer. This final promo video is chock-full of new and never-before seen content and yet again highlights a key aspect of the game. It’s narrative. You see, developer FromSoftware has already laid claim on the title of masters of action games, but despite having created universally acclaimed melee-combat action games like Souls series or Bloodborne, offering a concise story was never a strength.
Explore late 1500s Sengoku Japan, a brutal period of constant life and death conflict, as you come face to face with larger than life foes in a dark and twisted world. Unleash an arsenal of deadly prosthetic tools and powerful ninja abilities while you blend stealth, vertical traversal, and visceral head to head combat in a bloody confrontation.
That was by design however and not because of an inability to create a story-focused game. Sekiro is now finally attempting to fill that void present in the Souls games, all the while still offering the awesome combat. Sublime hitboxes, timing and punishing mistakes are all set to be here, too. Just faster. The famous dying mechanic of past games has been greatly redesigned, leading to less frustration and more chances to make mistakes undone.
It’ll be interesting to see how Sekiro fares to NiOh especially, the other Samurai Souls game. As a non-FromSoftware game it achieved great success by taking heavy influence from Souls games and mixing it with a feudal Japan setting. The similarities are significant. We’ll see next week which one does demon-infested Japan better.
