Sela Ward elected as President of the United States in Independence Day 2

Looks like Bill Pullman wasn't re-elected into office, as a new report confirm actress Sela Ward will play the current Presidnet of the United States in Independence Day 2.

According to Deadline, Sela Ward (Gone Girl) will play President Lanford in the upcoming sequel to 1996's Independence Day. I don't know much about Ward or her character in the film; I just hope she can pull off a speech as epic as Pullman's.

Not much is known regarding Independence Day 2 aside from, you know, it having aliens and all. Sela will join a cast that already includes Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman and Vivica A. Fox (all of whom starred in the original film). Newcomers Liam Hemsworth and Charlotte Gainsbourg are also on board, though it's not yet known exactly who they'll be playing. It's rumored that Hemsworth's character is related to Bill Pullman's character, Thomas J. Whitmore (President in the original film).

Independence Day 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on June 24, 2016.
