September’s Games with Gold announced for Xbox One and Xbox 360

September 2014's Xbox Games with Gold are focused on teamwork, Microsoft said, announcing next month's lineup of free games for the Xbox One and Xbox 360.

"Whether you’re in the mood for an Ocean’s Eleven-style heist, an epic brothers-in-arms tale, or taking on baddies with past versions of yourself, you won’t be walking alone next month."

So what do Xbox LIVE Gold members have waiting for them next month?

Xbox One

Super Time Force

Super Time Force will be the only free Xbox One game offered in September. As such, the game (normally $14.99) will be free for the entire month. Normally, you get one game for the first half and the second game in the second half of a month.

Super Time Force merges side-scrolling action with a "time-reversal" hook that creates a unique action-shooting experience. The game is hard — throwing tons of enemies and projectiles at you at once. Should you mess up, you can just press a button to rewind to a point where you can try it all over again, hopefully the right way. Additionally, the "ghost" of your former attempt will fight alongside you during the new attempt, turning you mistakes into potentially beneficial opportunities.

Xbox 360

Monaco: What's Yours Is Mine (Sept. 1-15)

Described as "team-based," this top-down, steal-puzzle game features retro-style graphics and a really unique plot. You and up to four friends can choose from a group of characters, and attempt to pull off a series of clever heists. Each member of the crew offers special strengths that will help you in your heist. For example, the Locksmith can open locked doors and safes faster than other characters. While you can play Monaco alone, it's much better — and easier — to play with a group of others. Yay teamwork!

Halo: Reach (Sept. 16-30)

In preparation for the release of Halo: The Master Chief Collection, coming to Xbox One this holiday, Microsoft is giving Xbox 360 owners a chance to experience the prequel to Master Chief's storyline in Halo: Reach.

"Relive the tragic and heroic story of Noble Team, a group of Spartans, who through great sacrifice and courage saved countless lives in the face of impossible odds. The planet Reach is humanity’s last line of defense between the encroaching alien alliance known as the Covenant and their ultimate goal, the destruction of Earth. If it falls, humanity will be perched on the brink of destruction."

If you plan on playing The Master Chief Collection later this year, this might be a good place to start.

Today's announcement follows on the heels of Sony revealing its own batch of free PS4, PS3, and Vita games through PlayStation Plus. Check out PS Plus' offerings for September here.
