Several Leaks hint at a Red Dead Redemption 2 PC version

Resourceful data miners have uncovered important info that Red Dead Redemption 2 might appear on PC sometime in the near future. The news follows another leak by a Swedish retailer who listed RDR 2 for PC in 2019.

A user named BlackScout posted his findings on the GTAForums, where several mentions on connecting to the PC are highly suggestive that Rockstar is indeed working on a PC version for Red Dead Redemption 2. Some choice findings are as following:

PARAM_FrameLimit
PARAM_DX11Use8BitTargets
PARAM_HDStreamingInFlight
PARAM_Oculus
PARAM_companionAutoConnectIpDurango
PARAM_companionAutoConnectIpOrbis
PARAM_companionAutoConnectIpPC
PARAM_singleThreadedRenderer
PostFX::g_CheckerBoardEnable

Now, these might look like programming gibberish to some, but a closer inspection throws questions why they would exist if not for a PC port? For example, a frame limiter is a commonly seen parameter in PC games, where users can decide to lock the maximum frames per second to traditionally 30, if their hardware is a limiting factor, or 60 if there’s enough horsepower.

The already stunning RDR2 might become even more beautiful on PC

Another point of interest are the mentions of Durango, Orbis and PC for the target connections of the companion app of RDR 2. Durango and Orbis were the famous code-names for the then-unannounced next-gen consoles by Microsoft and Sony, the Xbox One and PS4. Citing each in the same breath with PC is very credible proof that besides the two consoles, the PC is also a platform Rockstar has an eye for.

We need to urge you to still take all this with a hefty grain of salt. As all this can very much mean that Rockstar either at one point planned to release a PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2 but scrapped it later on. Or that the tool set in use by Rockstar merely has mentions and parameters for PC by default. Unless Rockstar outright confirms that Red Dead Redemption 2 is coming to PC, there is only speculation. No matter how concrete the evidence.

That said, the likelihood of Red Dead Redemption 2 coming to PC at some point has always been a high one. Seeing the massive success GTA5 is on the platform, it would make very little sense to deprave the company of such a lucrative option.

For now however, players will have to choose between Xbox One and PS4 to experience one of the best games of the generation, maybe even of all time.
