Nearly a year ago, the independently developed game Prey for the Gods reared its head, then fell silent. The game is back and this time, with a goal.
If this is your first time hearing about Prey for the Gods, it's an action survival game that puts you in the shoes of of a "a lone hero sent to the edge of a dying world to discover the mystery behind a never-ending winter." On the edge of the world you'll find colossal monsters to battle, each with its own weakness to exploit.
After the reveal of the game's trailer, the folks at No Matter Studios knew they had to develop the game. They quit their jobs, took the money in the savings accounts and went to work. Now, the team is looking for help to make this project come to life.
No Matter has turned to Kickstarter to help fund them $300,000 to complete the project and maintain creative control.
The trailer definitely shows off some features that are similar to Shadow of the Colossus, like movements and the ability to climb up giant monsters. The Kickstarter goes on to detail that the game features a combination of gameplay similar to Shadow of the Colossus, Deus Ex, DayZ, and BloodBorne.
According to the Kickstarter, these are the game’s core features:
- Colossal battles with giants where you can climb your foes
- A vast and mysterious frozen world with dynamic snow terrain that you must traverse
- Intense survival game play
- Explore mysterious temples that contain secrets and treasure.
- Dynamic weather and day/night cycle
- Non-linear game play where you choose who to battle and how
- Loot the fallen heroes and equip yourself with weapons and supplies
Console development for this game is possible, but the game would have to exceed its goal of $300K by an additional $300K. Currently the game is set to release on PC, with a number of stretch goals.
