Devolver Digital has formally unveiled Shadow Warrior 3. At the moment, the first-person shooter-brawler is only announced for PC at the tail-end of 2021. Watch the teaser trailer here!
It’s starting to become a tradition here that our guesses turn out to be confirmed only minutes after we formulate them. Just moments ago, we reported on Devolver Digital teasing the third Shadow Warrior game when we are now being greeted with the game’s official announcement.
But unlike our expectations that it was going to be unveiled during this Saturday’s Devolver Direct, the publisher has done it today. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t tune in to the Devolver Direct stream since Shadow Warrior 3 will premier its gameplay reveal there.
Fallen corporate shogun Lo Wang and his former employer turned nemesis turned sidekick Orochi Zilla embark on an improbable mission to recapture an ancient dragon they unwillingly unleashed from its eternal prison. Armed with a punishing mix of blades and bullets, Lo Wang must traverse uncharted parts of the world to track down the dark beast and push the apocalypse back yet again. All it will take is the mask of a dead god, a dragon’s egg, a touch of magic, and enough firepower to hold off the impending cataclysm.
Today’s teaser trailer is still full of interesting details about the game, however. For one, we get a look at in-engine footage and how much it improved since the latest outing four years ago. But there are also gameplay mechanics that are cheekily shown such as wall running and even a grappling hook. It sure is a mechanic that FPS developers have grown fond of recently.
Curiously enough, only the PC version has been announced today but we expect to get confirmation of console releases later this week. And it’s not like there is still time to share more details about the game with Shadow Warrior 3 aiming for a release way off on December 31st, 2021. That probably kills any chances of a current-gen release.
