Shantae returns in Pirate’s Curse on 3DS

A follow-up to the DSiWare game Shantae: Risky's Revenge is coming next year.

Shantae and the Pirate's Curse will release exclusively for the 3DS eShop. The announcement comes from the latest issue of Nintendo Power magazine, and the sequel picks up where Risky's Revenge left off — without her genie abilities. Shantae reluctantly aligns with her nemesis, Risky Boots, to regain her powers, which broke into 30 shards and fused with Risky's minions. The Tinkerbats grew too strong and overthrew Risky, and now they threaten to bring back her old mentor, the Pirate Master.

Unable to rely on her former powers, Shantae has to acquire Pirate Gear to learn new skills in this adventure. These pieces are both weapons and enhancements — giving Shantae an edge in combat but also helping her traverse her environments.

Pirate's Curse continues the game's tradition of a nonlinear, Metroid-like world.
