Shareholders re-elect Satoru Iwata as Nintendo President

Mario Kart 8 in its first weekend sold 1.2 million units, and has most recently sold over two million copies. Maybe a sign of good things to come for Nintendo? With Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U, Bayonetta 2 and a new Zelda on the horizon, there's no reason to think that Nintendo can't pick up steam with their Wii U console (which has been a disappointment in sales thus far) while the 3DS continues to kill it.

That's what the board of directors has re-elected Nintendo president Satoru Iwata at their Annual Shareholders Meeting. Though his approval rating has been in decline since its high of 92.9 in 2011, with the Wii U's recent success, I'm willing to bet it improves on last year's 77.3 percent. 

We'll see what the next year has in store, but hopefully Iwata has plugged all the holes in Nintendo's leaky ship, the S.S. Wii U.
