While there isn't a whole lot of concrete info on the upcoming Shazam film, we do know that it is the next solo movie set to release after Aquaman. Director David F. Sandberg still isn't sharing concrete details about the film (though he is actively documenting pre-production on his Instagram), but he did make an appearance on Reddit to confirm Shazam's release month during 2019.
"April 2019," he said. "It takes a long time to make VFX heavy movies."
What we do know about the Shazam-verse is that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson will play Black Adam, though he will be getting his own solo film (because he's The Rock). Sandberg has also said that the film will be more "lighthearted" in tone since the movie is essentially about a kid that gets to live out his dream of being a superhero. Billy Batson, the alter ego of Shazam, calls upon his powers by shouting "Shazam!" which he is then transformed into an adult man. It's arguably the most secretive alter ego there is.
We will see if Shazam can help maintain DC's solo film momentum in the wake of Wonder Woman's success when it follows Aquaman in April 2019.
