Shazam is the next DC movie set to be filmed; Set to release in 2019

Of all of the movies on DC's slate which includes The Batman, The Flash, Green Lantern Corps, and a rumored Man of Steel sequel, the next one to be shot is… Shazam. Seems like a strange choice but we also haven't heard of many issues regarding behind the scenes feuds or script issues so it seems to make the most sense!

The Hollywood Reporter states that the film is set to have cameras rolling in January or February of 2018 so it can hit theaters in 2019. Director David F. Sandberg (Lights Out) has signed on to helm the film after he releases Annabelle: Creation later this year and he'll reunite with producer Peter Safran who has worked on Aquaman and the Annabelle sequel.

For those not familiar with Shazam, it's about a young boy who has the ability to transform into a strong, adult hero by simply shouting "Shazam!" There's no word on who will play the young boy and his hero counterpart but we may hear something this weekend at Comic-Con.

There are currently no details regarding plot or if Dwayne Johnson will show up as villain Black Adam in this film. Johnson has been working with DC over the last couple of years to get a solo Black Adam film off the ground but it's currently unclear how much progress they've made on that.
