Shenmue 3 teased for 2018 release, more “surprises” incoming

Hopefully, the developers will come through.

Long bouts of silence and some awkward facial animations have defined Shenmue 3 more than the actual hype surrounding the game since its announcement almost three years ago. That said, any tidbit, tease, or reveal is (almost) always a most welcome sight.

To ring in the new year, the President and Founder of Shibuya Productions, Cedric Biscay teased that we could see Shenmue 3 sometime this year in a tweet. Check it out:

Naturally, there weren’t any details on what the “surprises” are. Though fans of the series would likely point to the rumors of the Shenmue 1+2 HD rumors that surfaced last year. It’s not like anyone would say “no” to wanting that anyway. SEGA is also on the record as saying they “would love to release” them, but so far nothing has been confirmed.

In any case, given the amount of time that has passed since the game’s unveiling and subsequent Kickstarter back in 2015, and that fact that this tease is coming straight from the studio’s President and founder, the tease definitely has legs. It just remains to be seen whether it will all come to fruition.

Shenmue 3 will be releasing on PS4 and PC (hopefully) later this year.
