After hanging up the whip and hat for quite some time, Harrison Ford returned to the role of Indiana Jones in 2008 with a new sidekick in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The older, wearier version of Jones had his son, played by Transformers star Shia LaBeouf, tag along on his new adventure.
Fans didn’t exactly respond well to the long awaited sequel for a variety of reasons, one of which being people didn’t really like Shia LaBeouf. Luckily for fans, he will not be a part of the fifth Indiana Jones flick set to hit theaters in 2020.
“Harrison plays Indiana Jones, that I can certainly say,” screenwriter David Koepp, who has penned a script for the fifth film told EW. “And the Shia LaBeouf character is not in the film.”
Koepp went on to talk about when they’re going to begin production on the film and stated that they have a script that they’re “mostly happy with”.
“We’re plugging away at it. In terms of when we would start, I think that’s up to Mr. Spielberg and Mr. Ford,” he continues. “I know we’ve got a script we’re mostly happy with. Work will be endless, of course, and ongoing, and Steven just finished shooting The Post …. If the stars align, hopefully it’ll be his next film.”
