Shigeru Miyamoto ‘saddened’ by Satoru Iwata’s passing, addresses Nintendo’s future

Mario, Zelda creator a front-runner to become next Nintendo President

Legendary developer Shigeru Miyamoto has issued a statement following the death of Nintendo President and his longtime friend Satoru Iwata. Like many of us, Miyamoto was "surprised" by the news of Iwata's passing, which Nintendo made public last night, but added that company "will remain committed" to the former president's development policy.

Miyamoto's full statement reads:

I am surprised at this sudden news and overcome with sadness. The entire development team at Nintendo will remain committed to our development policy which Mr. Iwata and we have been constructing together and to yield the development results which Mr. Iwata would appreciate.

There's still no news on who will become the next president of Nintendo, but there's speculation that Miyamoto, creator of such franchises as Donkey Kong, Mario, and Zelda, could be in line for the position.
