Shin Megami Tensei 4 blows away the competition in Japan

The new Shin Megami Tensei game has done really, really well so far in Japan.

Between the period of May 20 and May 26, Shin Megami Tensei 4 sold 188,562 copies for 3DS. It released on May 23 and is due for North America on July 16. I wonder how sales will compare between regions.

This makes SMT4 one of Atlus's best early-performing titles in recent years — only second to 2008's Persona 4 (that's the PlayStation 2 version), which sold several thousand more in its first week of launch.

The role-playing game even beat Resident Evil: Revelations (in third place), which came to consoles the same week as Shin Megami Tensei 4, selling a combined 102,673 copies between platforms.

Namco Bandai's Kamen Rider: Battride War for PlayStation 3 ranked second with 128,659 copies sold. These were all new releases in the top three.
