The Tomb Raider movies are one of those things where you know they’re trash, your friends know they’re trash, but you still watch them anytime it shows up on TV. They’re fun and campy and over the top, just like their source material and with the popularity of the reboot and the anticipation surrounding its follow up this year, it’s surprising it’s taken Warner Bros. this long to get the ball really rolling on a new set of films.
While talk of a rehashing for the series has been percolating for some time and not a lot else, a shortlist has surfaced of possible directors for the project. Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker/Zero Dark Thirty), Catherine Hardwicke (Twilight/Thirteen) and Mimi Leder (Deep Impact/The Peacemaker) are all reportedly in the running for the reboot.
Some of these choices carry some obvious weight as far as tone goes and would probably see a realization of a darker Lara, something that would match the atmosphere and persona surrounding the new track of the main game franchise.
Until this gets anywhere close to being a reality there is still pre-Bond Daniel Craig in the Jolie run of Tomb Raider.
