Shovel Knight is developer Yacht Club’s love letter to the sidescrolling beat-‘em-ups of old. With truly retro graphics—as opposed to the diluted definition of retro that dominates indie development—and crushing difficulty, it’s worthy of the NES-era mantle. And now, it has Butt Mode.
Butt Mode is one of the game’s more amusing cheats, accessed by inputting WSWWAEAW in the name registry. Doing so replaces the story's more common nouns with the word “butt,” resulting in such classic lines as “A grieving Butt Butt went into a life of solitude.”
