Sid Meier’s Starships announced with interstellar strategy

So far Sid Meier has allowed us to recreate our own version of Earth’s history and the history of futuristic planets, but what about the literal in-between? That’s right, space. Today 2K and Firaxis have announced Sid Meier’s Starships an adventure-driven interstellar strategy game. If that isn’t enough to catch your attention, how about the fact that it is coming out this summer of 2015 on PC, Mac, and iPad? Players will be exploring the galaxy, protecting discovered planets and their civilizations, all while building a federation bringing in the new age of man.

“When designing Starships, I was intrigued by the idea of exploring the next chapter in the story of Civilization: Beyond Earth. What happens after we colonize our new home and eventually build starships to take to the stars? What has become of our long-lost brothers and sisters from the planet Earth?” said Sid Meier, director of creative development at Firaxis Games. “My goal was to create an experience that focuses on starship design and combat within a universe filled with interstellar adventure, diplomacy, and exploration.”

If you’re thinking this sounds like it would go along well with Sid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth, you’re right. For those who have purchased it and Starships will uncover cross-connectivity which will enhance the depth of both games. Will Starships be what’s going on in space during the time of Beyond Earth? In the screenshots, it appears that the ship designs are similar to the three different ideologies in Beyond Earth. There is defiantly a Harmony design and Supremacy design.

“Sid has been a leader in the strategy and PC gaming market for more than 30 years,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. “After successfully launching an experience touching upon mankind’s history on Earth, fans will now see how Sid has used the Civilization: Beyond Earth universe to deliver his own unique style of strategic gaming.”

When it comes to Sid Meier games, I’m in. Add some sci-fi, space exploration, and spaceships fights – yea, okay. I’ll be seeing you this summer, Starships.
