Silent Hill HD Collection and Homecoming now backward compatible on Xbox

Silent Hill is one of the most prominent horror franchises in gaming and while it has taken a back seat this decade while Konami figures out what they’re doing, you can revisit some of the classics today.

Xbox One owners can go back and play Silent Hill 2, 3 (both via the HD collection), and Homecoming thanks to Xbox’s backward compatibility feature. These three games join Silent Hill: Downpour which has been available on the console for many months now. While it’s not the complete Silent Hill series, Silent Hill 2 is one of the most beloved horror games out there and is one worth playing if you haven’t ever touched it.

Silent Hill HD Collection is on sale for $7.49 on the Xbox Store if you’re an Xbox Live Gold member and Homecoming is priced at the standard $19.99. If you own the discs of either game, you can simply put them in your Xbox One and play them that way and if you own a digital copy, it’ll appear in your library.

Silent Hill 2 sees protagonist James Sunderland lured into the mysterious supernatural town after he receives proof that his deceased wife may still be alive and waiting for him in Silent Hill. Of course, things aren’t as they seem and Sunderland must defend himself from the nightmares around him while uncovering the mystery of his wife.

Silent Hill 3 follows a teenage girl named Heather Mason discovers she has a unique link to the town of horrors. An unfortunate set of circumstances give her no choice but to visit Silent Hill and well, you can guess what happens from there. The game’s plot was also loosely adapted for the film Silent Hill: Revelation.

Finally, Silent Hill: Homecoming is about a soldier known as Alex Shepard returning home from the war. Interestingly enough, he’s not from Silent Hill but a town known as Shepard’s Glen. Despite this, it shares similarities with Silent Hill with the creepy, ominous fog covering the seemingly deserted area. Shepard quickly discovers that people are going missing from the surrounding area and find a disturbing link to Silent Hill that is now plaguing his home.

All three games are available on Xbox One now.
