SimCity: Server busy? ‘Just hop on another,’ says Maxis

The city-building simulation game SimCity launched today — on always-online servers, the kind that caused Blizzard so much trouble with Diablo 3 last May.

Many players have been experiencing difficulties operating within publisher Electronic Arts' Origin service — from download delays to issues adding and playing with friends. While EA and developer Maxis are working to fix the problems, gamers are frustrated.

The Origin Twitter account tweeted that these delays are "impacting a small percentage of users."

The service is falsely informing some users that the game is "not yet released." Players who can access the servers seem to be unable to log on — either the servers appear to be busy or they receive a "checking for update" message.

"We're making changes to prevent further issues and are confident that Origin will be stable for international launches later this week," Origin tweeted.

The SimCity Twitter account perhaps offered a less tactful answer: "Some servers are seeing a lot of traffic. Good news: you can choose any of our servers to play on. If one is busy, hop on another to play."

One person responded, "Jesus Christ. You can't anticipate server load? that tip would be super helpful if you could actually ACCESS ANY OF THE SERVERS."
