It's been a sad start to the week, as the industry is still reeling from the sudden passing of Nintendo's late president, Satoru Iwata. Since yesterday, scores of artwork and sentimental expressions have been shared on a variety of media from devoted Nintendo fans and game studios alike. How very apropos it is that one team decided to express their condolences and thanks in the form of a game.
Simogo, the team known for such creative endeavours as DEVICE 6 and Year Walk, shared an untitled game on their website, which accompanied a post thanking Iwata for the influential role he played in the industry at large.
"There are many things to say, but words only go as far," the post read. "In our hearts and minds we are game developers and gamers, not writers, so we felt the most appropriate way to express our feelings and gratitude was through a videogame."
Their untitled work joins many other precious tributes that have surfaced over the past 24 hours.
