Simon Kinberg is in talks to write/direct ‘X-Men: Supernova’

Simon Kinberg, executive producer of FOX's 'X-Men' movie/TV universe is in talks to finally take the reigns on the next film.

As of late, X-Men hype has been pretty prevalent. With the upcoming release of Hugh Jackman's final adventure as the beloved mutant anti-hero, Wolverine, in 'Logan', the so far successful series, 'Legion', on FX, and the steadily forming plans for a 'New Mutants' movie, the franchise seems to have a bright future ahead of it.

Speaking of bright futures, it was announced after the release of last year's 'X-Men: Apocalypse' that a sequel was on the horizon entitled, 'X-Men: Supernova'. The movie plans to follow the story of Professor X and the rest of the newly established X-Men combatting the threat of their friend and ally, Jean Grey, when she unleashes the full power of the devastating Dark Phoenix.

Without a confirmation that go-to 'X-Men' director, Bryan Singer, would reprise his position, there has been some speculation as to who would take over. Apparently, Simon Kinberg, the man normally known as the executive producer of the 'X-Men' movie universe for FOX, has not only completed a first draft of the script, but is also in talks to direct the sequel.

The decision would come as no surprise, assuming the studio does in fact let him run with it. Kinberg has been involved with almost every 'X-Men' property, including 'Deadpool' and 'Legion', so in a sense, no one really knows the construct of this world better than him. With Kinberg as the frontrunner for the big chair, its possible he could be the missing ingredient to ensure the future of the franchise.
