Scott Derrickson is a horror movie behemoth. His directing credits include The Exorcism of Emily Rose and this Halloween's Sinister, and he's working on the script for a Poltergeist remake. With success in the horror genre, it's no surprise that he would decide to helm another horror movie. Scott Derrickson will reportedly be teaming up with Blumhouse Pictures (Paranormal Activity) to adapt Stephen King's novella The Breathing Method.
The Breathing Method was released as part of the Different Seasons collection in 1982. Set in a strange men's club where the members tell bizarre stories, a physician, Dr. Emlyn McCarron, shares one of his stories. The story is about a patient of his that was determined to give birth to her illegitimate child (in the 1930s), despite financial problems and social disapproval. She masters McCarron's Breathing Method, intended to help her through childbirth. They grow close to each other, and on the way to the hospital, something strange happens.
Derrickson is coming off of Sinister, which has opened well in theaters, earning $18 million compared to its $3 million budget. We'll learn more as the project is set for financing and begins casting.
