Sir Patrick Stewart officially announces Logan is his final film as Professor Xavier

Chances are at some point in your life you've uttered the phrase "Too much of a good thing can't hurt you". When it comes to Sir Patrick Stewart as Professor Xavier in X-Men this is definitely true. His portrayal of the character has been great and met with incredible fan fare over the years. That is why it is so sad to see him officially announce he will no longer portray Professor Xavier after his role in Logan.

Stewart made the announcement at a Sirius XM Townhall (via EW) where he spoke about the film with Hugh Jackman and James Mangold. In a rather emotional moment, Stewart said

“A week ago, Friday night in Berlin, the three of us sat, watching the movie, and I was so moved by it, much more moved than I had been the first time of seeing it. Maybe it was the company of these two guys, but the movie ended and — this is an admission — but at one point [Hugh] reached out, and he took my hand in those last few minutes, and I saw him go [mimes wiping a tear from his eye] like this, and then I realized I had just done the same thing. Then, the movie ended… and we were going to be taken up on stage, but not until the credits were over. So, we had some time to sit there and, as I sat there I realized there will never be a better, a more perfect, a more sensitive, emotional, and beautiful way of saying au revoir to Charles Xavier than this movie. So, I told [Hugh] that same evening, ‘I’m done too. It’s all over.'

We all knew this day had to come eventually, but it still stinks when it actually happens. Sir Patrick Stewart was one of those rare actors who so perfectly fit a role that it will be hard to replace him appropriately. Logan was the eighth time Stewart took over the role of Professor Xavier, and many fans know him in this role only being too young to remember Star Trek. Not too many actors are lucky enough to land a role that stays with them so fittingly, but Sir Patrick Stewart was one of them.

On behalf of everyone here at Gamezone, we thank Sir Patrick Stewart for all the memories.
