Skylanders SuperChargers to feature racing, online multiplayer

All versions of the mega popular toy-to-virtual reality game getting competitive racing.

Skylanders has been a massively successful yearly release for Activision since 2011, with each iteration building upon its predecessor.  This year’s game, Skylanders SuperChargers will be bringing racing and online multiplayer gameplay to the equation, and is something that fans have been asking about for sometime.

Senior vice president of consumer marketing, John Coyne remarked, "Skylanders fans told us they wanted to go head-to-head in online multiplayer with their friends and family, and we delivered. Skylanders SuperChargers enables gamers to race against friends all over the world and brings an exciting new expansion to the Skylanders gameplay experience".

The new racing mode, which can be played both on and offline, will take players across three different planes, Land, Sea and Air, all with their own unique vehicles and obstacles.  Many of the courses will feature hidden routes, allowing more attentive players to find the most efficient path to the finish line.

With these new additions, Skylanders SuperChargers will have the most diverse set of game mechanics to date:

  • Single-player Adventure Mode
  • Online and local co-operative Adventure Mode
  • Local 2-player head-to-head racing in split screen
  • Online competitive racing with up to 4 players
Skylanders SuperChargers will launch on September 20 in North America and September 25 in Europe for Xbox One, Xbox 360, Playstation 4, Playstation 3 and Nintendo Wii U.  An alternative dedicated racing combat game, Skylanders SuperChargers Racing, will also release for Nintendo Wii and 3DS simultaneously.
