Skyrim Patch for Xbox Coming Later This Week

Last week, Bethesda issued a statement updating fans with what they are working on in regards to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.  In addition to the mod creation kit and steam workshop, Bethesda in formed fans that they will be released an incremental update scheduled for this week.  While they anticipated that it will become available for PC first, they ensured that it will hit the "Xbox 360 later in the week".  If that is the case, look for a new Xbox Skyrim update between Wednesday and Friday of this week.

Since the release of Skyrim patch 1.2, many Xbox 360 users have reported numerous bugs.  While it did fix the texture issues on the Xbox for when the game is installed to the hard drive, the overall complaints on the forums have led many to believe the new patch actually makes the game worse off then it was before.  This could explain why Bethesda is released another update so quickly.

Issues that Xbox 360 users have run into include a magic resistance glitch, where the game recognizes your magic resistance, but doesn't actually apply it in a fight.  Other bugs and glitches include dragons flying backwards, dragons not giving its souls when they die, and things of that sort.  There is an entire thread dedicated to the Xbox 360 glitches caused by the 1.2 patch.

In their update, Bethesda ensured fans that the update will "fix issues like magic resistance not calculating properly and the rare, amazing backwards flying dragon."  They promised full patch release notes once the update is released.

"After the holidays, we’ll continue to release regular updates for the game — through full title updates, as well as incremental “gameplay updates” to fix whatever issues come up along with rebalancing portions of the game for difficulty or exploits. We plan on having a lot of these, not just a few. Overall, you should expect updates to be hitting the PC and Steam earlier and more often, as that’s a process we control. Console updates will follow, as they must be certified and processed by those manufacturers."

In their post they explained if they get too aggressive trying to fix a minor issues, they run the risk of breaking something larger in the game.

"To be safe, we are prioritizing code side fixes right now over data fixes. Quest and balance issues are usually data, and those will start rolling in a large way with the January updates."
