Skyrim’s ‘Arrow to the knee’ writer working on Fallout 4

I once explored the Wasteland like you, then I took an arrow in the knee.

The name Emil Pagliarulo might not ring any bells, but if you have had access to video games and the internet since 2011 — you have more than likely heard his work. Pagliarulo has been a lead/senior designer and writer at Bethesda since 2002, he has worked on Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3, Skyrim, and now Fallout 4.

Pagliarulo is the man behind the one liner that took the internet by storm – he is the man that penned the line, "I used to be an adventurer like you, then I took an arrow in the knee."

Well, the 'king of one liners' is back and he's coming for Fallout 4.

Bethesda's Game Director and Executive Producer Todd Howard revealed that Pagliarulo has been working his one liners into Fallout 4 – to the point where Howard called Pagliarulo after playing a bit of the game.

"We really wanted to make you get attached to the people," Howard explained. "Emil came in and wrote all of the dialogue. Even though he’s working on Fallout 4, he came in and wrote all the dialogue for the people, just those little one liners. He’s the king of the one liners. There’s nobody better, trust me. 'Arrow in the knee'? That's Emil. I’ll play Fallout 4, I’ll hear a line and I’ll call Emil and I’ll be like, ‘dude…'"

Fallout 4 is set to release this November on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
