Skyrim update 1.7 hits PlayStation 3 in the next few weeks

Update 1.7 for the PlayStation 3 version of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will arrive in "the coming weeks," according to a tweet from the official account. Soon more players will be able to enjoy fixes and new abilities like mounted combat.

The update includes download 1.6, which is already live on PC and Xbox 360. With it comes crash fixes for dragon landings and new water shaders, memory and stability optimizations, and patches to swimming animations.

Xbox 360 users can expect fixes for logic errors with loading screens, better voice recognition with Kinect and Kinect-enabled dragon foreign-language shouts, and resolved issues with Dawnguard's Kinect-enabled dragon shouts in those languages (French, German, Italian, and Spanish).

Dawnguard isn't as close at hand for PS3 and PC owners, though. Last night Bethesda marketing chief Pete Hines tweeted that the studio had no announcements to make:

"We have not announced Dawnguard for any other platform, nor given a timeline for any such news. If we have news, I promise I'd tell you."

The add-on came to Xbox 360 last month. Fans have expected a multi-platform release soon, per the Xbox 360's 30 days of exclusivity rule.
