Skyrim’s PC Mods May Arrive on Consoles

User-generated content on Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim may be coming to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions, but first the game’s Executive Producer Todd Howard needs to find a way to make it happen.

The technology works on both systems, and discussion has taken place about bringing it to home consoles, but the possibility is unlikely for now. Howard told Edge that while the mod tools themselves don’t work, user-generated content transfers just fine.

“It works on all the consoles,” he said. “As far as the 360 and PS3, right now there’s not an avenue for us to make that available, but we’d very much like to find a way. We have talked to Microsoft and Sony, and so there’s a chance it might happen one day, [but] I don’t see it happening for release.”

One of Howard’s prime desires to get everything synced up is so the series’ massive console audience can experience what only 10% of Skyrim’s buyers will get to use. “We’d like to see it happen, because it works, it’s how we made the game,” Howard said. “I think it’s something really cool about what we do, but 90 per cent of our audience is on the consoles, so 90 per cent of our audience can’t even see this thing. So if we can solve that we’d like to.”

Recently, Steam made its way to the PlayStation 3 through Portal 2, bringing full cross-platform play and chat across the PC, Mac, and PS3 console.
