Sledgehammer Games not developing Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare for Xbox 360 and PS3

As revealed in the latest issue of Game Informer, Sledgehammer Games will not be handling the development of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare on last-gen consoles. Don't worry, Activision has confirmed that the game will still be coming to Xbox 360 and PS3, but that these versions are being developed by another studio which has yet to be announced.

Elsewhere in the 12-page feature, it is revealed by Sledgehammer co-founder Michael Condrey that Advanced Warfare is being built on a completely new engine that allows for an "impressive amount of onscreen activity" and "realistic details… such as character models with pupils that actually dilate."

Though last year's Call of Duty: Ghosts was also available on Xbox One and PS4, it was built across platforms simultaneously. And though the game looked good on the now current-gen systems, it was clear that the Xbox One and PS4 versions were being held back by. Game Informer writes that fans of the series "can prepare for a bigger visual impact" now that the game was built for new-gen first.

The latest issue of Game Informer is currently available for purchase.
