Slightly Mad Studios confirms crowdfunding for Project CARS 2 will begin soon

Project CARS 2 to enter development shortly after Project CARS releases

Slightly Mad Studios and Bandai Namco have been teasing Project CARS for well over a year (try something like three and a half years). We have seen multiple release dates and can safely say that the game will finally be releasing on the Xbox One, PS4 and PC this week.

But even before the game has even released, Slightly Mad Studios head Ian Bell has taken to the game's private forums to reveal plans for a sequel to the anticipated game. The forum post is only visible to people who backed Project CARS during its crowdfunding phase.

Slightly Mad Studios will be crowdfunding Project CARS 2 shortly after Project CARS releases. They intend to reuse the World of Mass Development model as a non-profit form to help fund the game. Bottom line, Project CARS 2 will be crowdfunded in a similar way that Project CARS was – but as a non-profit.

Check out Bell's post:

“We will open new forum sections when the game (pCARS1) ships to support the new users and you WMD [World of Mass Development] experts will all have access and we’d greatly appreciate your assistance advising new users. I’ll be implementing a new non-profit return form of WMD for pCARS2 and will set a purchase time limit of 2-3 months for those who want to take part.

Following this, involvement will be closed. The tiers won’t have the higher cost options that we currently have (probably capped at 100 pounds with excellent benefits).

In short, we want to continue and extend the community involvement in the pCARS brand which has proven to be so very effective and we want to ensure this great community lives on and thrives into the future.”

With how long it took to develop Project CARS, we can probably expect Project CARS 2 in 2018 – 2019.
