Dish Network's Sling TV just got a lot more attractive for cord cutters, as a report from TheWrap reveals a new deal between Dish Network and Time Warner’s Turner Broadcasting and HBO which will bring standalone HBO to the television streaming service. This would make Sling TV the first live Internet TV service to offer standalone HBO.
Although a specific date has not been announced yet, the standalone HBO option will reportedly come to Sling TV in time for the premiere of Game of Thrones Season 5 on April 12.
“Sling TV is bringing HBO to our customers on all of our supported devices in time for one of the most important TV moments of the year,” Sling TV CEO Roger Lynch told TheWrap.
For those unfamiliar, Sling TV offers subscribers a $20 "Best of Live TV" Core package that includes a limited number of popular channels, like ESPN, TBS, HGTV, and most recently AMC; however, there are also plans to offer add-on packages with other channels for a mere $5 each., as well as a built-in rental movie service.
The HBO package will be available for $15 per month, and will include live programming as well as VOD content. It will be available on all devices that currently support Sling TV, including Amazon Fire, Roku, Xbox One, Android and iOS devices, and computers.
